Matthew Polesetsky

Matthew leads Demand Media's legal team, advising the company's executive management on a wide range of matters including commercial transactions, corporate governance, and employment law, and leading the company's litigation and intellectual property protection efforts.

Prior to joining Demand Media in March 2007, Matthew served as general counsel of MySpace before its acquisition by News Corporation and then, post-acquisition, as Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at Fox Interactive Media. While at MySpace, Matthew helped establish industry-leading policies regarding interactive social media and intellectual property protection, online safety, and privacy issues.

Previous to his tenure at MySpace, Matthew practiced business law for prominent legal firms such as Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. His time with Orrick included a two-year stint in Southeast Asia representing the bank restructuring agency of the Republic of Indonesia and international banks in the wake of the Asian financial crisis.

He has been a speaker at universities and industry conferences on topics regarding the evolution of Internet law, including intellectual property and privacy issues.

Matthew holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a B.A. in Sociology, magna cum laude, from Haverford College. He was admitted to the California state bar in 1994.
