Charles Hilliard
President and CFO
Charles joined Demand Media in 2007 and leads the company's financial, accounting, legal and IT operations, drawing from over 20 years of experience in executive management, investment banking and public accounting.
Charles most recently served as President and CFO of United Online, starting as CFO of its predecessor, NetZero, in 1999. While there, he helped lead the company through its IPO and strategic acquisitions of Juno Online Services, Classmates Online and MyPoints.com. During Charles’s tenure, United Online achieved a 100-fold increase in annual revenues, returned over $265 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases, and became a member of the Standard & Poor’s 600 Index with a market capitalization of $1.2 billion.
Prior to United Online, Charles was an investment banker for nine years with Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, where he was involved with the successful execution of over $30 billion of M&A and financing transactions. He began his career as an accountant with Arthur Andersen and became licensed as a CPA in 1988.
Charles graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and earned an MBA with distinction and Beta Gamma Sigma honors from the University of Michigan. Charles currently serves as a Commissioner for the State of California Public Infrastructure Advisory Commission (PIAC).
