Kevin Z. Smith
Former President, Society of Professional Journalists
Kevin is former President of the Society of Professional Journalists, and a 30-year member of that organization. He served on the SPJ board for four years before assuming the role of president in August 2009. Additionally, Kevin served 18 years on the organization’s ethics committee, acting as chair for two years.
He is also an assistant professor of journalism at Fairmont State University in West Virginia, where he teaches reporting, photography, editing and design, feature writing and mass communication theory. Before joining the faculty at Fairmont State, he was a reporter and editor at various newspapers for nearly two decades.
Kevin graduated with a BS in journalism from West Virginia University, and earned his MA in mass communications from Miami University. He is the author of two SPJ books on journalism ethics, as well as a collection of his newspaper columns.
