John Hawkins

Managing Partner and co-founder of Generation Partners

John is Managing Partner and co-founder of Generation Partners. Prior to founding Generation, John served as a general partner of Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., a venture-capital firm, where he invested primarily in telecommunications, data communications, software and business services companies. John previously worked in the Corporate Finance Department of Alex, Brown & Sons, Inc., in San Francisco, where he advised information technology companies on financial strategy, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, John was a publishing research analyst for Woodman, Kirkpatrick & Gilbreath, an investment bank later purchased by Hambrecht & Quist.

In his 20 years of experience in private-equity investing, John has served on the Boards of 22 companies, including Pluck, a leading online media company; HotJobs, a pioneer in online recruiting; P-Com, a communications infrastructure equipment supplier; thePlatform, a developer of digital content software solutions; Agility Recovery Solutions, a leading disaster-recovery provider; High End Systems, a premier manufacturer of intelligent lighting; Revcube Media, an online performance-based marketing-services provider; ShopWiki, an advanced comparison shopping search engine; and iCrossing, a large independent, global interactive advertising agency.

John graduated with honors from Harvard College in 1982 with a BA in English and later earned an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. John is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, Golden Gate Chapter.
