One Billion Streams….and Growing
You may have heard the news that Demand Media recently crossed the 1 billion video stream mark. And if you follow the online video industry you’re probably also aware of YouTube’s march towards profitability as a Google business unit. So for obvious reasons, we’re very excited about the convergence of these two long and winding roads.

And while our belief in online video as a valuable medium has only been strengthened over the last several months, as YouTube’s largest content partner and a beneficiary of the service’s financial success, it was in some ways “old news” to us. Since establishing our partnership in 2007, YouTube has been delivering ever-stronger revenue growth to us.

But the other part of the story that’s even more inspiring is the set of benefits that’s created for the many other constituencies in our video value chain:

Consumers benefit when they are able to find useful and engaging video content in the head, torso and tail of topic areas.
 
Partners like YouTube benefit when we create high-quality content to fill the long-tail which Google helps you find.

Advertisers benefit when our high-quality video library provides targeted and “well-lit” areas on the Web for their marketing messages to reach consumers.

Creators benefit when we offer consistent work and the opportunity to have their work seen by huge audiences.

The Online Industry benefits when our model proves that online video can be profitable – even in challenging economic times

Yes - there are a BILLION reasons for us to celebrate today.  BUT – in the years ahead there are billions of dollars worth of value to created by companies who can make online video a profitable, growing and global enterprise.  Keep an eye on this blog as we continue to innovate in the creation, distribution and monetization of online video…..and chart a course for the next billion streams!
