Lights, Camera, Experts at BlogWorld
Our cameras were rolling at BlogWorld & New Media Expo, as we turned the Demand Media Studios booth into a Hollywood-style casting call for expert talent.
![]() The casting call was just one of several big events for us at this year’s BlogWorld. The biggest was the formal announcement of our Blog Distribution Network, which will syndicate timely, topic-focused blog posts to our owned-and-operated sites like eHow.com and LIVESTRONG.COM, as well as to Content Channels partners like USA Today. In turn, participating bloggers will gain the chance to grow their audience and extend their personal brands to the millions of readers who visit those sites each month. You can read more of the exciting details here. We also participated in a couple of great conference sessions aimed at helping up-and-coming bloggers turn their passions into profits – hosting the “How to Get Discovered” workshop with blogging mavens Chris Garrett and Darren Rowse, and sharing the stage with experts like Chris and ecofabulous.com’s Zem Joaquin (who recently teamed with us for a cool new video series) for a panel discussing “How To Turn Your Blogging Hobby into a Full-Time Job." ![]() Photo: John Blue, TruffleMedia For the casting call itself, we figured BlogWorld would also be a terrific place to turn the lens on top bloggers interested in our Talent and Expert Network. Through the program, we partner with established and emerging talent to develop new content for our audience of over 100 million viewers on our sites and those of our partners. The bloggers we met with at BlogWorld have established themselves as subject-level experts on topics as diverse as parenting, personal fitness and delicious barbecue, and dozens auditioned for us on the spot, transforming our tiny sitting area into a jam-packed green room. Their screen tests were great, and we were blown away by the knowledge and enthusiasm these talented bloggers had to offer. We look forward to connecting them with our nationwide network of professional freelance filmmakers to help them share their amazing passions and build their personal brands with our large (and growing) online audience. Or, in film-speak, finding them the perfect roles. Steven is Executive Vice President, Studios. You can follow him on Twitter at @skydd.
