Growing Demand Blog

Getting the Inside Scoop on Demand Media
Today, I’m headed to Austin to speak at SXSW Interactive.  I’m incredibly excited for my first ever trip to SXSW, but I’m particularly looking forward to reconnecting with Dan Fletcher, who will be interviewing me on-stage.  Dan is a reporter and social media producer for TIME magazine, and while researching for a recent article about us, he enrolled as a freelancer in our studio and spent several days participating in our content production process firsthand.  If you haven’t read his article yet, I won’t spoil it for you, but I found it perfectly fitting that TIME expertly employed one of the hallmarks of traditional journalism – in-depth investigative reporting – to demonstrate the ways that our two business models differ.  And I was equally encouraged by the article’s understanding that mainstream media companies could benefit from much of what we’re doing.

I can't wait to hear more about Dan's personal experience writing for our studio, and I've got plenty of questions for him about what he liked, what he didn't, and how we can continue to improve the process for our growing community of talented freelancers.  As Dan pointed out in his article, one of the tenets of our Manifesto is that we never rest, and we're always on the lookout for ways to make Demand Media even better.
